Set in modern-day Tokyo, Rental Family (Hikari 2025) follows an American actor (played by Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese ‘rental family’ agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he learns the stories behind the roles, the line between performance and reality start to blur.
